What are Florastor probiotics used for?
Florastor probiotics may be used to support digestive and immune health. Probiotics are considered “good” bacteria. They are live microorganisms that can be found in fermented foods, such as yogurt. It is believed that the health of your gut can impact your immune system. Probiotics are believed to help support your digestive system by giving your gut “good” bacteria, which may also support your immune system. Antibiotics kill both “good” and “bad” bacteria in your body. Probiotics may also help your gut after taking antibiotics by replenishing the “good” bacteria.
Florastor products may also contain a prebiotic. Prebiotics can be found in many types of food. They cannot be digested by your body and can also help “good” bacteria grow in your gut. The main probiotic found in Florastor products is Saccharomyces boulardii. The prebiotic in some Florastor products is inulin. Some Florastor products may also contain different vitamins, minerals, and other ingredients.
Talk to your health care provider to see if Florastor probiotics may be right for you.

Side effects may vary depending on the ingredients in the specific product you are using. Some possible side effects can include gas or an upset stomach. Talk to your health care provider before taking Florastor probiotics, especially if you have a condition that weakens your immune system.
If you have a central line, such as a central venous catheter, peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC), or port, or have any other type of line such as a Vascath, Permacath, or AV fistula, do not use Florastor. These lines can be used for various reasons, depending on the type of line your health care provider puts in, such as for giving fluids or medicine or for drawing or giving blood. These tubes can get infected by bacteria, including probiotics. Talk to your health care provider if you have been taking Florastor and have been to the intensive care unit (ICU).
As Florastor probiotics contain different active ingredients, review the ingredients in your specific product to understand which side effects you might experience.
What should I know before using Florastor probiotics?
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have an upcoming surgery, talk to your health care provider before taking Florastor.
Do not use a Florastor product if you are allergic to any of its ingredients or to yeast.
Do not use a Florastor product if you are about to receive an organ or bone marrow transplant or have already received an organ or bone marrow transplant.
Florastor comes as capsules, gummies, and packets. The products should be kept at room temperature (not refrigerated) and should be kept away from direct sunlight.
Florastor packets must be mixed with soft foods (such as applesauce or yogurt) or a cold, noncarbonated, nonalcoholic beverage (such as water or juice). The probiotic/food or probiotic/beverage mixture must also be taken within 30 minutes after mixing.
Florastor capsules can either be swallowed whole with at least 4 oz of water or juice or be opened and mixed with soft foods or certain beverages, as discussed above.
Florastor products are vegetarian but they are not vegan because they contain lactose derived from milk.
Although Florastor contains lactose, it may be used if you are lactose intolerant. The main probiotic in Florastor, Saccharomyces boulardii, stimulates an increase in digestive enzymes, including lactase. By increasing lactase production, it helps break down the lactose in the gut. Use caution if you are genetically incapable of producing lactase. Since Florastor boosts your own lactase, it may not be appropriate if you are genetically unable to produce any lactase at all.
There may be side effects, additional warnings, and interactions with medicines that are not listed here. These may vary depending on the combination of ingredients in the specific Florastor product you are using. Always check the label before taking any over-the-counter product. Do not take more than the recommended dose. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about your health conditions and medicines to help determine which products are safe for you.
