Sodium hypochlorite can be irritating or cause damage to healthy skin. Ask your health care provider if you should use an ointment, such as petroleum jelly, on healthy skin around the affected area to reduce this risk.
If you have any worsening pain or swelling or your symptoms are not getting better, stop using sodium hypochlorite and contact your health care provider right away.
Sodium hypochlorite may cause fabrics or hair to bleach. Be careful when using it near hair and avoid getting it on clothing or other fabrics.
What should I tell my health care provider before using sodium hypochlorite?
Tell your health care provider about all of your health conditions and any prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, vitamins/minerals, herbal products, and other supplements you are using. This will help them know if sodium hypochlorite is right for you.
In particular, make sure that you discuss any of the following.
Pregnancy. It is not known if or how sodium hypochlorite could affect pregnancy or harm a fetus. Tell your health care provider if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
Breastfeeding. It is not known if sodium hypochlorite passes into breast milk. Tell your health care provider if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.

There are no known interactions between sodium hypochlorite and foods or drinks.
It is unknown if drinking alcohol will affect sodium hypochlorite, but heavy drinking can slow your immune response and make it harder for your body to heal or fight infections.
