Natalie Skowlund is a freelance writer for WebMD. An award-winning bilingual health journalist, Skowlund recently completed a Journalism & Women Symposium Health Fellowship. With about five years of health reporting experience, her past work has included stories about mental health in rural communities, solutions to elderly social isolation, and Native American traditional healing. She holds a Master of Mass Communication degree from the Arizona State University Walter Cronkite School of Journalism, where she focused on health disparities reporting as a Southwest Health Reporting Fellow. She is a Fulbright scholar who has worked and studied in Colombia, Taiwan, Bolivia, Spain, and Mexico. She speaks English, Spanish, and Mandarin. Her work has been published with NPR, KFF Health News, Colorado Public Radio, SciLine, and more. Her work has been recognized by the Indigenous Journalists Association, Association of Health Care Journalists, and Society of Professional Journalists, among others. She has presented on her health reporting at the Journalism & Women Symposium 2025 conference and Broadcast Education Association 2023 conference. Skowlund often uses her bilingual skills in reporting projects and loves to travel internationally to cover stories around the globe.
